Lacanian Press presents:
“Starting Analysis“
by Thomas Svolos
An introduction to psychoanalysis: the experience of starting a psychoanalytic treatment, both as a patient and an analyst; the experience of engaging with the psychoanalytic School and what makes the psychoanalytic School different from other groups; the experience of working as an analyst among other clinicians who know little or nothing about it; and, the experience of reading the work of Jacques Lacan, Jacques-Alain Miller, and other Lacanian psychoanalysts. This book, an edited transcript of a seminar, aims to transmit these different dimensions of the experience of psychoanalysis, especially for those just beginning to approach psychoanalysis and Lacan.
Thomas Svolos practices psychoanalysis in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a member of Lacanian Compass, the New Lacanian School, and the World Association of Psychoanalysis. He is the author of Culture and Politics on the Couch: Lacanian Interventions (Palgrave, 2024), The Aims of Analysis: Miami Seminar on the Late Lacan (Lacanian Press, 2020), and Twenty-first Century Psychoanalysis (Routledge, 2017). He is co-editor of Lacan and Addiction: An Anthology (Routledge, 2011). His writings have appeared in ten languages.
